A few minutes further is surfy Croyde and, just beyond it, Woolacombe Beach, a sensational three-mile stretch which was recently ranked in the Top 25 Beaches in the World by TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards. Another must-visit sandy spot is the remarkable Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe.

Croyde Surf Academy will take your surfing skills next level, whether you’re a beginner or intermediate, a five-year-old or 85-year-old.

They also offer a range of stand up paddle boarding (SUP) courses, from taster sessions to half- and full-day tours. Go and see them in the big blue bus overlooking Croyde Bay to kickstart your sessions.
Whether it’s coaching or casual play, Tarka Tennis in the centre of Barnstaple is a great spot for some tennis. There are six indoor tennis courts and four floodlit outdoor tennis courts, with an additional two mini red courts for the little ones.
